Self Regulating Heat Trace
Electric Heat Trace is a very effective way to maintaining the temperature of a fluid, to stop it falling below its solidification temperature while static in the pipe (for example temperature maintenance of full caustic soda lines overnight). It is also used in grease traps and freezer drain lines to keep the pipe warm and prevent liquid from solidifying inside the pipe.
** Note - Due to its relatively low wattage output per linear meter (30W/m max), Electric Heat Trace is not very effective at heating up a flowing fluid in a pipe. When used with a lagging material, it can be used to keep pumps and other process machinery warm to prevent liquids freezing inside them.

Details
Self-regulating heating trace is constructed from two parallel bus wires, embedded in semi-conductive self-regulating matrix. As the heating cable automatically responds to changes in ambient conditions. With increase in temperature, the synthetic material expands by molecular force, and the connections between the carbon particles diminish, increasing the resistance of current transfer, therefore reducing the heat output of the cable
Conversely, as the temperature decreases, so the load increases as the connections between the carbon particles increases accordingly. Thus the heating power varies according to the temperature of the surface the heating tape is applied to. This is occurring all the way along the heating cable, so it is able to adapt to differing ambient conditions and put more heat in areas where it is needed.
Self-regulating heating tapes will not overheat or burnout - even when overlapped.
They can be cut on site to suit the exact pipe lengths, and spliced, and joined to other cables, or power connection using a range of accessories that are available
